Silent Sullivan sides with Putin once more

The weekend news featured this from the Associated Press:

WASHINGTON — A bipartisan group of six senators on Sunday called for President Donald Trump’s administration to “immediately reverse course” on a plan to purchase diesel from Russia as part of an effort to lower high fuel prices.

The group included Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski. Missing from the group was Sen. Dan Sullivan, who has advertised himself as one of the world’s leading opponents of Putin during his 12 years in the U.S. Senate.

It’s Murkowski, not Sullivan, who has the measure of Trump and Putin.

“A few weeks ago, Congress overwhelmingly passed legislation to increase sanctions and tariffs on Russia. The President should be using those authorities instead of allowing Russia to export diesel, rake in revenues, and continue its catastrophic war in Ukraine,” Murkowski said.

And what does the politician in the Marine baseball hat have to say? Exactly what we have come to expect.

You could write a book about the disastrous Trump policies on which Sullivan has nothing to offer but a smile and a shoeshine.i

Sullivan had nothing to say about J.D. Vance saying that one of the things he is most proud of under Trump is that the U.S. is no longer providing weapons for Ukraine.

He belatedly had his campaign do the Putin shuffle:

“In Alaska, a spokesperson for Sullivan, Nate Adams, said in a statement that the senator "believes American energy dominance is the answer to high prices, and that means producing more of it in Alaska, for Alaskans, by Alaskans, not importing it from Russia.”

Sullivan plays Alaskans for suckers with the energy dominance dumbness.

Trump plans to visit Wasilla Tuesday and campaign for Sullivan. The senator will deliver a Denali-sized load of praise on the president who always sticks with the Russian dictator.

Sullivan has long claimed that Donald Trump “has a history of actions that are significantly harder on Putin — and the other dictators around the world” than Obama and Biden.

Trump has been on the side of the Russian dictator all along, though Sullivan has claimed the president really supports Ukraine.

Now Trump is calling for lifting sanctions on Russia and getting rid of President Zelensky, blaming Ukraine for the Russian invasion. He wants Ukraine to surrender.

Holding Sullivan accountable means that his statements and actions, especially those in which he reverses his so-called positions to avoid offending Trump, need to be monitored and understood.

Sullivan spent the years of the Biden administration claiming the president was not doing enough to help Zelensky and Ukraine.

“No matter the soaring rhetoric from President Biden, his administration is not in it to win it in Ukraine,” Sullivan said in July 2024.

Trump is in it to win it for Putin, but Sullivan lacks the political courage to say so.
