Korea confirms it won't pay for Alaska LNG project, contradicting Trump, Sullivan, Begich, Dunleavy
Donald Trump’s gasline lie on behalf of Sen. Dan Sullivan’s campaign continues to unravel.
Mexico is not paying for the wall. Korea is not paying for the Alaska LNG pipeline.
South Korea wasted little time before denying Trump’s claim that it has agreed to spend $54 billion to build the Alaska LNG project and that the project will get going right away.
The best news coverage of this debacle is in the Wall Street Journal.
“At a Wednesday announcement at the Oval Office, President Trump, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and top Alaskan officials announced a roughly $50 billion investment by the South Korean government into an Alaska liquefied-natural-gas pipeline,” the Journal reported.
“The rub: South Koreans didn’t agree to a specific dollar figure—or even to invest at all.”
“At a Thursday press briefing, South Korea’s industry minister, Kim Jung-kwan, objected to the U.S. characterization of the country’s Alaska LNG investment. ‘Putting out figures, or using definitive language, goes far beyond what was agreed,’ he said.”
Korea’s president said no investment will be made until the commercial viability of the project is determined and Korea determines that it complies with Korean law.
Sullivan, Begich and Dunleavy all willingly bought into the Trump lie and spread it to Alaskans, though no one from South Korea attended the White House campaign event.
The Alaska politicians embarrassed themselves and our state. There is no gas line deal.
There were no documents about the alleged $54 billion deal and no agreement that anyone from South Korea had signed. After congratulating everyone and anyone for the imaginary pipeline financing plan, Sullivan and Dunleavy made special appearances on Mike Porcaro’s right-wing talk show in Anchorage to claim this was a milestone in Alaska history.
The only evidence about the alleged deal was that Trump claimed the deal had been made. Trump was lying.
“Thank you Mr. President! Glad we could get this across the finish line for Alaska!” Sullivan claimed on social media.
Sullivan must have known that Trump was lying when Sullivan spread this lie to Alaskans.
The same goes for Begich who praised the “historic $54 billion investment” and Dunleavy, who said it was possible thanks to Trump.

Sullivan promoted the lie that Korea has agreed to pay $54 billion for the gas pipeline, hoping it will help him win reelection next month.
Bernadette Wilson was among the Alaska politicians who accepted the lie about South Korea paying for the gas line without checking.
Dunleavy agreed to promote the $54 billion lie and pretend that Korea is ready to hand over the cash.
Begich made the embarrassment in the Oval Office complete, praising the dear leader.
Dunleavy didn’t ask any questions about the $54 billion.
Trump is lying. There is no “landmark Alaska LNG pipeline deal.”
