Gas line bamboozle by Sullivan, Begich, Dunleavy
A lie by Trump about a nonexistent $54 billion investment in the Alaska LNG project is not a cause for celebration.
The Republican A team lied to Alaskans that South Korea has agreed to invest $54 billion in the Alaska LNG project, paying the entire bill.
“Senator Sullivan, Congressman Begich, and Governor Dunleavy celebrate the $54 BILLION investment — and break down what it means for Alaska jobs, energy bills, and the next generation,” the White House said.
“This is a fantastic day for Alaska,” said Dunleavy.
“We just spent about an hour-and-a-half with the president of the United States and his cabinet, going over the great things that have just happened for this Alaska natural gas pipeline. Our South Korean allies are partners now, they are providing a lot of funding for this, upwards of $50 billion plus,” Dunleavy said Wednesday.
“We are thrilled about what has occurred here and we are looking forward to decades and decades and decades of natural gas for Alaskans,” said Dunleavy.
Sulivan and Begich are both on the ballot in November, facing serious challenges from Mary Peltola and Bill Hill.
After telling Trump how great he is, the Alaska A Team posed for a campaign video and said the gas line financial problems have ended for good. Nothing will stop the gas line now because the South Koreans will pay, they said.
“And we have a window right now where relationships that have been built over years and years are paying off for the state of Alaska,” said Begich.
Sullivan said it was a “really important day for Alaska” and the money from Korea would change everything.
“Well I think we have the solution today with the investments from the trade deal that the administration negotiated with Korea. On their investments in the Alaska LNG project and the gas line. Over $50 billion signed by the president of the United States and the president of Korea last week and announced today with all of us,” said Sullivan.
“Thank you Mr. President!” Sullivan said on social media. “Glad we could get this across the finish line for Alaska!”
Within hours, South Korea said none of it was true. The $54 billion promise had never been made. The gas line was $54 billion shy of the finish line.
When called on their lie, Sullivan and Begich had their employees produce laughable claims that we should not believe the Koreans, but trust Trump that the $54 billion will appear.
“What we’re seeing is part of the negotiation,” Sullivan spokeswoman Amanda Coyne claimed for the A Team. “Bottom line: this is going to get built.”’
According to her it is expert negotiating to announce a $54 billion investment one day and announce the next day that the real number is zero.
This is not negotiating. It is Trump doing what comes naturally, which is lying. There was a deceptive White House event to fool Alaskans into thinking that Trump helped Sullivan get the pipeline “across the finish line” right before the election.
Even Coyne must know there is no reason to believe the message she sent to Alaska reporters.
The desperate gaslighting is an attempt to salvage Sullivan’s election campaign, hoping Alaskans will forget that Sullivan and Begich made fools of themselves by falsely claiming the imaginary historic $54 billion transfer had been signed, sealed and delivered.
When J.D. Vance and Trump show up and claim the South Koreans are paying for the pipeline, just remember they will be lying.
