Wilson calls on Bronson, Taylor to drop out, support her. They won't

It’s time for Republicans Dave Bronson and Tregarrick Taylor to do the right thing for Alaska, according to Republican Bernadette Wilson.

And the right thing for Alaska, according to Bernadette Wilson, is to abandon their campaigns and support Bernadette Wilson.

“The numbers don’t lie. We don’t have the runway to drastically change behavior,” says Bernadette Wilson.

With the three Republican candidates having now advanced beyond the “Dueling Banjos” chapter of the campaign, they are ready for the WWE Smackdown.

Wilson says that Bronson and Taylor are spoilers, a charge they could just as easily make against her. None of them can claim a mandate from the primary. Wilson got 16,000 votes. Bronson got 13,000 and Taylor got almost 12,000.

There is no reason why Bronson and Taylor are going to start taking orders from Wilson.

For all of their many faults, they are not as uninformed and clueless as Bernadette Wilson, who is the clear frontrunner in that category.

She leads the league in saying she has “bold ideas,” while never saying anything bold or coming up with anything approaching an idea.

One of her priorities is to bring back the annual State of the Budget speech by the governor. The budget speech was abandoned decades ago because everyone knew the State of the State speech was more than enough.

She claims that the secret to dealing with the Legislature is to refuse to cooperate with the Democrats and independents and Republicans who are not taking orders from GOP headquarters.

Her claim that she will get the Legislature to approve a $1.5 billion deficit to pay for the dividend by vetoing “everything out of that damn budget until they figure out how they’re going to pay out your Permanent Fund Dividend,” shows that she doesn’t know the first thing about the Legislature or the budget. She claims that her lack of experience is a big asset.

Like Dunleavy in 2018 and 2022, she can’t identify millions of budget cuts, let alone $1 billion. In claiming that legislators are lying about the budget, she has displayed her ignorance.

“You guys are being lied to,” Wilson said at a forum hosted by Chugach Electric, the Anchorage Daily News reported. “They’re hoping to dupe you on it. You need to follow the formula.”

Wilson is the one lying about all of this.

Hers is the type of deep thinking you expect from a first-time-caller-long-time-listener on talk radio.

Wilson’s campaign now consists of championing Republican infighting from now until Election Day.

We can thank her and strategist Suzanne Downing, the Alaska Republican fabulator and the Rasputin of the Wilson movement. Downing also claims that doing the right thing means Bronson and Taylor will surrender.

Wilson and Downing are trying to portray Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins as a scary socialist, a term that the Trump-addled Republican Party is trying to apply to every Democrat in the nation, thinking they have landed on a scary word that will win votes. They are desperately seeking something that will stick.

It’s all nonsense.

Wilson and the rest will never define what they mean by socialist because doing so would expose them as liars and hypocrites who are trapped in a corner of their own making, fashioned by Trump and his supplicants.

Shaking down private companies to have the government take a share for its own use, the socialist tactic that Trump has championed, doesn’t get the attention it deserves, but that’s because it has become normal behavior according to the Republican Party.

A state that sends money to its residents would have been derided as socialist in another time and place, but Alaska Republicans won’t be taking on that one.

Wilson made her call for party unity Thursday through a press release and a pre-recorded pitch that portrayed her as the true leader of the Republicans.

She refused to attend the Commonwealth North event at which Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins, Bronson and Taylor answered questions about the governor’s race.

Alaskans would have been much better served by hearing a conversation, Wilson’s favorite word, at which she confronted Bronson and Taylor and they replied.

Kreiss-Tomkins and his campaign are doing an admirable job in staking out a middle ground for Alaska. The population of Alaska is not large enough to permit us to continue to act as if the promotion of warring factions and a spirit of never compromising is our destiny.
