Sullivan's surrender on Ukraine
Sen. Dan Sullivan has claimed on many occasions in the past that, compared to Obama and Biden, Trump “has a history of actions that are significantly harder on Putin — and the other dictators around the world.”
Sullivan keeps making this claim even though Trump has shown over and over again that he sides with Putin in the war against Ukraine.
Trump took another step Friday to please the Kremlin, extending a plan to allow to sell oil and raise cash he needs to continue his war against Ukraine.
“Just two days after Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the United States would not extend a sanctions exemption on the sale of some Russian oil, the Treasury Department did just that on Friday, issuing one for about a month,” the New York Times reported.
Sullivan has said nothing about this gift to Putin.
Sullivan also has nothing to say about J.D. Vance saying that one of the things he is most proud of under Trump is that the U.S. is no longer providing weapons for Ukraine.
“We’ve told Europe that if they want to buy weapons, they can do so, but the United States no longer buys weapons or sends them to Ukraine,” Vance said.
Sullivan would have plenty to say if a Democrat occupied the White House. Sullivan never stopped attacking Biden for failing to do enough to help Ukraine.
“No matter the soaring rhetoric from President Biden, his administration is not in it to win it in Ukraine,” Sullivan said on July 10, 2024.
What happened here is simple and needs to be understood by Alaska voters.
Sullivan abandoned his support for Ukraine because Trump doesn’t support Ukraine. Sullivan is afraid to stand up to Trump.
With Trump in it to win it for Russia, Sullivan has surrendered.
A year ago, on April 3, 2025, Sullivan put out this press release praising himself, Lindsey Graham and others for wanting to place harsh sanctions on Russia, a bill allegedly backed by almost everyone in the Senate.
“These sanctions would be imposed if Russia refuses to engage in good faith negotiations for a lasting peace with Ukraine or initiates another effort, including military invasion, that undermines the sovereignty of Ukraine after peace is negotiated. The legislation also imposes a 500 percent tariff on imported goods from countries that buy Russian oil, gas, uranium and other products,” Sullivan’s press release said.
The Senate didn’t bring up the bill, which was opposed by Trump.
