Who's afraid of Trump? Sen. Dan Sullivan
The topic for today’s edition of Things Dan Sulivan is Afraid to Talk About: Greenland.
Sen. Lisa Murkowski co-sponsored a bill Tuesday with New Hampshire Democrat Jeanne Shaheen to block Trump from moving against a NATO ally like Greenland, a territory controlled by Denmark.
Sullivan did not sign onto it.
“Our NATO alliances are what set the United States apart from our adversaries. We have friends and allies who are willing to stand firmly alongside us as the strongest line of defense to keep those who work to undermine peace and stability from making sweeping advances globally,” Murkowski said in a press release.
“The mere notion that America would use our vast resources against our allies is deeply troubling and must be wholly rejected by Congress in statute,” she said.
Murkowski and other lawmakers are headed to Copenhagen this week to speak to leaders of Denmark to show that the U.S. is not united on Trump’s obsession.
Trump attacked Murkowski in a speech in Detroit Tuesday as a loser and a disaster, based on her vote last week to force a Senate vote on getting Congressional approval before going to war in Venezuela. He called her up last week and spoke to her with profanity, an Alaska Public Media reporter said.
Sullivan, who talks a good game about “Choose Respect,” has never challenged the insults that Trump has routinely made about Murkowski. Sullivan never will.
Trump will no doubt be furious about Murkowski’s Greenland bill.
Trump’s claims that the U.S. would take control of Greenland threatens the future of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
That would be good news for Russia and China. It would be bad news for the United States and Europe.
Clearly Sullivan has opinons on this topic, but he is afraid to say anything.
He is afraid to say that Trump’s crackpot plan is right. He is afraid to say that Trump’s crackpot plan is wrong.
He has the look of a senator caught in the headlights.
