Sullivan, Begich, Dunleavy lead the mindless cheerleading for Trump's war

Alaska Republicans instantly lined up behind Donald Trump’s unconstitutional decision to go to war with Iran.

Sen. Dan Sullivan, Rep. Nick Begich the Third and Gov. Mike Dunleavy led the mindless cheerleading. Even Sen. Lisa Murkowski had a kind word for the “focused strikes on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.”

Previous presidents have refrained from taking this step because of a grave fear of how escalation could lead to catastrophe.

Ignoring the lessons of Afghanistan and Iraq, the United States is at war again.

No one should believe that the hostilities will end with Trump’s one-day bombing run. The war will not be won without a bigger commitment from the United States. It is absurd to think this means air power alone.

No one should trust Trump, who promised to end the chaos in the Middle East. Five months ago, Trump told the nation, “We will measure our success not only by the battles we win but also by the wars that we end - and perhaps most importantly, the wars we never get into.”

Where is the Trump war plan? What is the goal? Where is the Sullivan war plan? What will it cost in lives and dollars? What taxes are needed to pay for it? What are the risks? Why didn’t Trump ask Congress for a declaration of war and follow the Constitution? What about the 40,000 U.S. troops in the Middle East? What are the chances for a series of terrorist attacks in the United States?

Sullivan, Begich and Dunleavy—along with the others in Trump’s clown cadre—have no answers to the endless questions the new war creates.

Sullivan blames everything on Biden, the reflexive action that allows him to avoid thinking, a warning sign because it’s likely Dan has not thought through what comes next.

The easiest thing in the world is to start a war. Ending it is another matter.

Things can spiral out of control in ways that no one has imagined, even when the government is led by competent people.

It’s too soon to say what Trump has really unleashed. Anyone who claims otherwise is a fool.
