Sullivan defends East Wing demolition as 'renovation'
Sen. Dan Sullivan, who never criticizes Donald Trump, is sending Alaskans a form letter claiming the demolition of the East Wing of the White House was not demolition but renovation.
It’s all good, he says in his letter, which resembles a Wikipedia entry. It ends with a wish for a Merry Christmas in a different typeface, a thoughtless bit of copy and paste that is in keeping with the contents of this missive.
“Thank you for contacting me regarding White House Renovations,” Sullivan writes to those who oppose Trump’s demolition of the East Wing.
Sullivan’s form letter claims that “renovation work began on part of the East Wing” in October to make way for a new ballroom. The East Wing was renovated out of existence. This is the latest in a long line of renovations, Sullivan’s letter says.
Sullivan doesn’t question whether the corporate donors for Trump’s ballroom are paying what amount to enormous bribes to win favors from Trump.
To those who oppose “this renovation project,” Sullivan says the president can renovate in any way he chooses.
“Some have expressed concerns regarding possible legal issues with this renovation project, however, there are few laws that directly govern these projects and many renovation decisions for the White House are left to the President’s discretion,” Sullivan’s form letter says.
