Sullivan praises Hegseth's bonehead speech, but says nothing about Trump using military to attack political enemies
Sen. Dan Sullivan had high praise for Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth’s macho man speech to military leaders assembled from around the world at great expense.
Hegseth is a man who puts brawn over brains. He has plenty of the former and little of the latter.
But Sullivan didn’t move a muscle to speak against Donald Trump’s plan to use the military to fight his political opponents in the United States and Trump’s reckless claim about the “enemy within.”
U.S. cities should not be the “training ground” for the military that Trump wants.
But Sullivan is incapable of saying anything useful about Trump or any of his lieutenants. Sullivan should stick to picking nominees for his Alaskan of the Week award.
“We should use some of these dangerous cities as training grounds for our military,” Trump claimed.
He also said, “We’re under invasion from within. No different than a foreign enemy but more difficult in many ways because they don’t wear uniforms.”
"This is going to be a big thing for the people in this room, because it's the enemy from within, and we have to handle it before it gets out of control,"
There is no invasion from within. There is no enemy within.
If Sullivan can’t find the strength to say so, he should resign.
Mental exercise is called for on the part of the junior senator. But all he can. manage is endless flattery of Trump and Trump’s henchmen that would put Uriah Heep to shame.
This more important than whether generals and admirals can do as many pull-ups as Hegseth, who belongs in a TV studio, not at the helm of the world’s most powerful military.
And what do we get from Sullivan?
Cheerleading for Hegseth’s bonehead babbling about how we need to get rid of fat generals and fat admirals.
Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf, who tipped the scales at 240, would have no place in an Army run on the Hegseth/Sullivan simpleton scale.
Suppose we keep the fat generals and fat admirals who are smart enough to lead men and women and protect the interests of the United States?
Instead, let’s get rid of the military men and the lightweight politicians like Sullivan and Hegseth who think that physical strength, a clean-shaven face and a good haircut is what the ideal military leader needs in the 21st Century.
After Hegseth’s speech, Sullivan posed for the camera in front of a pull-up bar and said he did pull-ups all the time when he was in the Marine Corps Reserves.
“Great speech by the Secretary of War Pete Hegseth today,” Sullivan said. “Here’s the deal, no more fat generals, no more fat admirals.”
Fathead politicians, however, can always find room at the table.
