Sullivan supports overturning Roe v Wade, but hides his position from Alaskans
Some version of the statement above appeared in most Alaska news organizations following the leak of the draft court ruling that would overturn Roe v Wade.
Sen. Dan Sullivan wants to overturn the court precedent on abortion rights, but he and his PR man in D.C. can’t possibly say that to Alaskans.
They won’t admit that Sullivan signed onto the anti-abortion position in the case that led to the Supreme Court draft opinion, Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.
Sullivan’s attempt to hide his position is bizarre, given his public declaration a year ago in signing onto an amicus brief in the Dobbs case. Does he think that no one is aware of this?
Alaska news organizations need to follow up and mention that Sullivan has already taken a position on doing away with Roe v Wade.
Sullivan and other abortion opponents said precedents such as Roe v Wade should be “where necessary, wholly or partially overruled.”
“Mississippi’s case,” Sullivan and 227 other members of Congress said, “provides the Court a chance to release its vise grip on abortion politics.”
The Mississippi delegation that circulated the document signed by Sullivan made it clear that they see the case as a chance to overturn Roe v Wade.
Sullivan’s refusal to be candid with his constituents on controversial matters is his standard practice.
